From 20 January 2027, machines newly placed on the EU market must meet the Machinery Regulation. AI-enabled humanoids sit in the blast radius. Most demo robots do not ship with a complete industrial conformity pack.

The date that matters
On 20 January 2027, Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 applies for new placements. The old Machinery Directive mindset is not enough. Cybersecurity of safety functions, AI / self-evolving behaviour, and human–robot collaboration are in scope. Notified Body queues for higher-risk paths often run months, not days. If you are piloting a Unitree, Figure, NEURA, Apptronik, or similar platform in the EU: procurement without a gap list is the expensive option.

We do not issue CE marks, Declarations of Conformity, or legal advice. Your manufacturer, authorised representative, or notified body owns conformity. We make sure you know what’s missing before someone else finds out.
Ask your vendor (preview)
Before you sign the pilot PO, demand:
- Draft Declaration of Conformity path under 2023/1230 (not only 2006/42/EC language)
- Risk assessment covering locomotion, contact, emergency stop, OTA updates
- Cybersecurity of safety-related functions
- Evidence pack for AI / learning behaviour if present
- Who is the EU authorised representative
- What happens when you integrate tools, end-effectors, or site software (the “machine as deployed”)
