What is supported
The Hyundai chapter of the Korean metal union won a strike mandate in June. Partial walkouts in Ulsan in July. In August the first full day in ten years. Estimated disruption: about 55,200 vehicles. The 25 August 2026 deal covers pay, a bonus, technical hires and a pledge to disclose progress on new businesses and technologies.
Hyundai plans Atlas at Metaplant America in Georgia from 2028. Sequencing first. Assembly named later, not 2026.
Hyundai told Western outlets: deployment in Korean plants was not on the table in these talks.
What the strike does not support
Atlas does not work in Ulsan in 2026. Atlas does not work in Georgia in 2026. A strike against a plan is not proof the plan already holds a shift.
Anyone who treats a CES spec as a shift turns 2028 into today.
The number that stays
Hyundai has named annual Atlas capacity in the tens of thousands. A large share of the first series is spoken for inside its own plants, not the open market. That is a procurement plan. Not a stamp on a station.
What it actually means
Ulsan put the name on the table. Georgia remains the first site in the plan. 2026 remains training and a hall without that body.
